My husband and I were laughing the other day because we each have a mini-me.

One of our young sons looks exactly like his dad, and one of them looks like me. The two boys look nothing like each other, but you can definitely tell who their parents are because of the strong resemblance.

Here’s the truth: children often look like their parents.

It got me thinking about how we are called to look like our Heavenly Father. We are taught in scripture to resemble him by aligning our actions with his Word and his character. Jesus was an incredible example of how to do this in John 13:12-17:

“After washing their feet, he put on his robe again and sat down and asked, “Do you understand what I was doing? You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and you are right, because that’s what I am. And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you. I tell you the truth, slaves are not greater than their master. Nor is the messenger more important than the one who sends the message. Now that you know these things, God will bless you for doing them.”

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭5‬:‭1‬-‭2‬ agrees:
“Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.”

The Bible tells us that to look like our Heavenly Father, we must choose to sacrifice and serve as a lifestyle.

It’s a high calling- to put others first and give up our own comforts. To do the jobs no one else wants to do and to love those who don’t love us in return.

So here’s my question: how can you look like the Heavenly Father today? Who can you serve or sacrifice for? Spend a few minutes brainstorming ways you can look like his love.

You are great and mighty, worthy of praise. Your love is so great and it knows no bounds. Help me to love like you today. Show me who I can serve.
