Does it ever feel like being an adult means making too many decisions?

Some decisions are easy! For instance, when I am at a restaurant, should I order a salad or French fries? (I’ll let you guess as to which one I usually pick)

However, other decisions aren’t so easy. Especially ones that involve:
Money.
Jobs.
Family.
Making big changes.
Parenting.
Caring for others.

I think the thing that stresses me out the most about making decisions is the fear of making the wrong one. I desire to make the “right” decision! I want to live in such a way that pleases God, honors my family, and leads to peace and joy. It isn’t always abundantly clear what God has for me, and in those times, I struggle to make a decision for fear of choosing incorrectly.

This month, we are making some big decisions and I already feel the decision fatigue setting in. The weight of my choices feels heavy. Maybe that’s why I love reading Proverbs so much- it’s a reminder that I am not alone in my decisions. God grants wisdom to us for times like these! I find myself reading the Proverbs in times when I need wisdom.

Here’s what Proverbs 2:13–18 says:
“Joyful is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding. For wisdom is more profitable than silver, and her wages are better than gold. Wisdom is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. She offers you long life in her right hand, and riches and honor in her left. She will guide you down delightful paths; all her ways are satisfying. Wisdom is a tree of life to those who embrace her; happy are those who hold her tightly.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭2‬:‭1‬-‭6‬ ‭agrees:
“My child, listen to what I say, and treasure my commands. Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding. Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding. Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures. Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord, and you will gain knowledge of God. For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.”

God gives wisdom to those who seek him! I find this comforting because it takes the weight of decision-making off of my shoulders and puts it into the hands of the creator of the universe. God PROVIDES the wisdom we need to make decisions that are in his will and bring glory to his name.

We don’t have to make decisions alone!

Whatever decision you face today, ask the Lord to give you spiritual insight and he will help you. Plus, I invite you to read a proverb a day, just like me. I simply read whatever one matches that days’ date.

Heavenly Father,
You alone are God and there is no one like you. You hold the universe and you see what the future holds. You are wisdom itself! Please send your Spirit to help me make decisions today. I ask you to show me your path and give me the insight I need to be in your will.
